• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The WaterbornKindle Edition 1%: "Another god, cloaked in the flesh of an argent bird winging frantically away, was snapped like a twig by the first shock, his wings broken, the flesh seared and then stripped from bones that themselves were blown apart. The pain was awful, the fiercest agony that the god had ever known, and in eternity he had felt much pain."

This week’s topic: Ten Books I Will Probably Never Read

Tiara’s Picks

I took a look at some books on my TBR pile and some of them struck an immediate sense of “When the hell am I ever going to read this?” So, here are just ten of the books I’ll probably (because you never know with me) never get to. This was a little hard for me because I’d actually pared down my TBR pile by over 500 books a couple of weeks back, so must stuff I do actually plan to read. I really just tried to pull the least likely out of what I still have left. (I was too lazy to go back looking for old books I’d already purge, except one.) Feel free to make a good case for why I should read one of these books except Tolkien. I don’t play around with Tolkien not even a little bit. Don’t you ever.

SilmarillionThe Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

Short story: I really dislike Tolkien’s writing. Long story: I really, really dislike Tolkien’s writing. This book isn’t even on my TBR pile, and unless forced I will never read this damn book. Never. Good riddance.  But if they make a movie, I’ll probably watch that since I can tolerate the movies.

The Care and Feeding of Stray VampiresThe Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Harper

I still haven’t figured out why I added this to my TBR pile in the first place, and I still don’t understand why I haven’t deleted it from my TBR. I think I added it because the description reminded me of a Nelson’s Day Men, but I just have a feeling that this probably won’t be as exciting. I don’t even like the cover. What the hell was I thinking?

The Book of IvyThe Book of Ivy by Amy Engle

I think I was somewhat intrigued by this dystopian idea of the girls/women of the losing side of a war having to marry the men/boys of the winning side. Then, I thought about it more and decided I think that actually didn’t sound like something I wanted to read added to the fact that it’s YA, and I rarely find a YA book that doesn’t annoy the hell out of me these days (but I’m still willing to give them a chance). I’m pretty sure I still added this book because the last line of the blurb said: “Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…” So, there’s a chance I’ll still read this because I can be a shallow reader like that.

Eighth Grade BitesEighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer

This has been on my TBR pile for years now, and I just grew out of wanting to read it. So, I doubt I ever will. It’s probably a perfectly good book, but I’m just not feeling it anymore. There’s a graphic novel, though, so maybe that’ll happen… or not… Probably not…

Ms HolmesMs. Holmes of Baker Street: The Truth About Sherlock by Alan Bradley

So, there are some people who believe that Sherlock Holmes was in fact a woman, and this book was an investigative piece that analyzed the literature and tried to provide evidence. Admittedly, I still think this is a fascinating idea, but I no longer have an intense interest in reading it. I’ve gotten the gist of it from other people who’ve read it. Some of it makes sense, and then some of it reminds me of this guy:

Aliens Guy

Speed Dating with the DeadSpeed Dating with the Dead by Scott Nicholson

What even? Why is this on my TBR pile? I don’t even…

[insert AliensGuy.jpeg here again]

The WInter SeaThe Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

This was added to my TBR list after a friend takeover who thought it would be cute to add crap I don’t want to read to my already ridiculously huge TBR pile. You’re not funny, Sparkle, and I will never read this book. So HA! Joke’s on you!

The Fault In Our StarsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Over it. 110% over it. Unpopular opinion. Sorry, not sorry.

Hemlock GroveHemlock Grove by Brian McGreevy

Watched the series with my husband on Netflix. Decided I might want to read the book it’s based on. Apparently, I don’t want to read it as bad as I thought I did. But the show has the best werewolf transformation scene ever! This video is not for the faint of heart. You’ve been warned.

    • I’ve been trying to stay away from too many ARCs, but I had a sudden influx suddenly work their way into my life these past few days, but I will remain diligent on working on my TBR, too, and adding these arcs in.

  2. It’s been a while since I have read a Molly Harper book but I used to like the ones I tried so I should go back to them. I haven’t read the others I confess but heard about some too.

    • I haven’t read anything by her and I saw this sitting on my TBR pile while I was looking for books to add to this, and I asked myself: “Why do I want to read this again?” I might try one of her other books, though, if you have a good recommendation.

  3. Bonus points for use of a Road to El Dorado gif! Love that movie so much!

Yeah, I’ve never read any of these books. And a couple of them are in my, “Eh, I guess maybe I’d read it if I ran out of every other good book I want to read first” pile, but still. I think that means if nothing was published ever again, it’d still be a good 20 years before I get around to some of those books.

    • I love El Dorado, too, and that just seemed the right time to use that gif. LOL.

I think I’m the say way. There’s still a PROBABLY in there for these books, but probably not since there’s always something for me to read.

    • One thing you can trust is if I say something is gory, it’s most likely an understatement and is very gory. LOL. I’m not squeamish. Or rather, there’s very little that can turn my stomach, but there’s some things that even I have to admit are pretty gross. I wasn’t exactly uncomfortable with the scene, but did go, “Whoa, now that is different and gross.” while my husband was like: “That. Was. AWESOME.” LOL.

  4. I recently took The Fault in Our Stars off my TBR. I saw the movie, it was fine (that main guy really bothers me for some reason), but feel like the book would be too overblown. I mean, some of the lines these kids were saying in the movie — no teens talk like that.

    • The movie is probably why I decided to not read it, too. It was okay, but something didn’t settle right with me in the movie either and I feel like that’ll probably be the case with the book too.

    • I watched the movie. I think that’s good enough for me right now. That’s not to say that one day this won’t happen, but right now, no.

    • I try not to. I usually tell myself, if everyone else loves it, then I’ll probably hate it.

  5. Hahaha. I totally meant to do this TTT but lost track of time! I am also never going to read The Fault in our Stars… because I don’t generally like romance, and also because it reminds of when I was a preteen and my friends made me go see that movie with Mandy Moore dying of cancer in it like ten times.

    • LOL. It happens. I almost didn’t do it myself because I was feeling so under the weather. Stupid allergies. OMG A Walk to Remember. I can remember seeing that at least 3 times with my husband (then boyfriend), he cried EVERY SINGLE TIME and I just…*facedesk*

  6. I haven’t been here for a bit and there’s a new person around. Nice to meet you Tiara. 🙂 I have a not to read list of good reads just because I keep looking at the same books and going “no”. Haha adding silly books to your list sounds like something my sister would do. I don’t plan on reading any of these either.

    • Hi Molly! Nice to meet you, too. I’m not new. I promise! I just had to take a hiatus from the site for a while for personal reasons, so I wasn’t around as much. But Wendy and Mogsy kept things going while I was taking care of personal life.

I’ve been thinking about starting a Goodreads list just for books I want to pass on. I’ve noticed lots of people do it, and it sounds like an excellent idea. LOL.

      • Hehe oops. I recognize your handle now if not your real name. Nice to see you back. 🙂 Yeah, it’s handy to have a not to read list then I don’t keep getting fooled thinking a book looks good.
