Waiting on Wednesday 06/23/21

Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Mogsy’s Pick
Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson (November 23, 2021 by Delacorte)
I’m going through Sanderson withdrawal! But just a few more months until book 3 of the Skyward series. I know what I’ll be reading this Sci-fi November!
“Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell—the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home.
Now, the Superiority—the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life—has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa’s seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator.
Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she’s able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy.
The only way she can discover what she really is, though, is to leave behind all she knows and enter the Nowhere. A place from which few ever return.
To have courage means facing fear. And this mission is terrifying.”
Nice pick! That’s a new to me one. I hope you enjoy it once you get to read it!

I’ve yet to try this series but would like to. I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve read from Sanderson. Just checked and I do have an ebook of Skyward, so there’s nothing stopping me from starting but time. 🙂

I’d pretty much read anything by Sanderson lol. Definitely give it a try, it’s YA but it’s Sanderson’s brand of YA 😉

I’m sometimes hesitant to try YA, but not when it’s from Sanderson. I really enjoyed what I’ve read so far of The Reckoners stories, The Rithmatist, and I absolutely loved The Emperor’s Soul (if that’s even YA). The Emperor’s Soul might be my favorite from him so far. So I can absolutely see myself trying this series. 🙂

I don’t know if The Emperor’s Soul is YA, but I feel it is another great example that illustrates why Sanderson’s work is in a league of its own. TES is my favorite novella ever!!! I’m not really one for short stories/novellas, but whether it’s 100 pages or 1000, Sanderson always seems to write pure winners.

I’ve never read any of Sanderson’s YA stuff, but I’m still lingering over Rhythm of War, so I’m getting my fix. 🙂
