Waiting on Wednesday 04/29/20
Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Mogsy’s Pick
Battle Ground by Jim Butcher (September 29, 2020 by Ace)
Hot on the heels of Peace Talks, which is due out in July, the seventeenth Dresden Files book will be releasing this fall. Now, I don’t usually feature sequels for Waiting on Wednesday unless I’m caught up with the series, but I think we can make an exception for this one because I pretty much devour Jim Butcher’s books as soon as I get my hands on them.
“THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET SERIOUS FOR HARRY DRESDEN, CHICAGO’S ONLY PROFESSIONAL WIZARD, in the next entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files.
Harry has faced terrible odds before. He has a long history of fighting enemies above his weight class. The Red Court of vampires. The fallen angels of the Order of the Blackened Denarius. The Outsiders.
But this time it’s different. A being more powerful and dangerous on an order of magnitude beyond what the world has seen in a millennium is coming. And she’s bringing an army. The Last Titan has declared war on the city of Chicago, and has come to subjugate humanity, obliterating any who stand in her way.
Harry’s mission is simple but impossible: Save the city by killing a Titan. And the attempt will change Harry’s life, Chicago, and the mortal world forever.”
Yeah, ditto. I bet you’ll beat me through them, though.

17! I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never read a Dresden book.

Don’t feel embarrassed, I know how hard it is to get started on a series especially when you see that it’s already so far in! I’ve been like that with so many UF series!

I think I’ve said this before, but I really need to start this series. I keep reading such great things about it, and though I sometimes shy away from urban fantasy I do like the sound of the character and everyone comments on how great a writer Jim Butcher is. Pushing it just a bit higher up the TBR…

It’s a great series! Though I think it really started hitting its stride after 3 or 4 books, so it might be really tough to start it nowadays!

I’m so late, I only tried book 1

I got as far as Cold Days, but found the bleaker, darker mood hard to take… Glad this series is still going strong and maybe I’ll dive back in at some stage. I hope you love this offering, Mogsy:)

Oh yes, and I think that might be around the time the character hit rock bottom, though it does get a lot lighter again after that!

In which case, I might just jump aboard again – I loved the earlier books, but just couldn’t face the downbeat misery pervading Ghost Story and Cold Days:). Thank you for the heads up, Mogsy:))

I had a feeling you might pick this, in fact I thought I’d see more bloggers choose it since it was the “big” cover reveal last week😁

Many people read this series, but I imagine not a whole lot are all caught up 😛

I still need to read the second book and the rest, and although I really want to, the pace with which he seems to produce these makes it kinda daunting 🙈

Luckily he’s slowed down in recent years, or it would have been more books to catch up with, lol!

I’ve read the first three in this series and really need to go back and reread them if I ever hope to read it again. I would like to catch up though someday and I know Stormi is really excited for this one because she is actually all caught up!

Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds! The series does take a few books to get off the ground though, but then it just gets plain fun and awesome.

Huh, as much as I love Dresden and am waiting for the series to continue, this sounds suspiciously like a Rick Riordan book, and in this particular context it’s not something I’m looking forward to! 😜

The synopsis does indeed have that vibe 😉

I can’t believe this is up to No.17. I have some serious catching up to do. Think I was up to either 8 or 9.
