Waiting on Wednesday 12/19/18

Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Mogsy’s Pick

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (May 7th, 2019 by Knopf Books for Young Readers)

I have a feeling this will be a popular Waiting on Wednesday/Can’t Wait Wednesday pick today since the cover was recently revealed. The premise sounds a bit goofball to me, but after the brilliant collaboration between Kaufman and Kristoff on the Illuminae trilogy, I’d be curious to see whatever the two of them will come up with. Aurora Rising takes place in a new and unrelated universe, but from the sound of things, it will be the start of another incredible space operatic adventure.

“The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the academy would touch . . .

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass tech whiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger-management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem–that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline cases, and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

NOBODY PANIC.”

  1. Ooh so THIS is what they’ve been working on. 🙂 I had not seen this cover yet, but after Illuminae it’s probably a safe bet it will be good.

  2. I almost picked this today! But then I saw another cover reveal that made me more excited😁 This sounds pretty good, but it’s going to be hard to top Illuminae. We’ll see!

  3. You’re right, this is going to be a very popular post, not to mention a wonderful surprise 🙂
I’m almost at the end of “Obsidio” and loving it just as much – if not more – than its two predecessors, and knowing that this amazing duo has something new in store for us fills me with joy: I know that I will love these new characters just as much as I love the ones from the Illuminae Files.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!!
