Waiting on Wednesday 12/06/17
“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Noir by Christopher Moore (April 17, 2018 by William Morrow)
I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never read Christopher Moore, though his books have always called to me with their promise of humor and quirk. But as soon as I learned of his upcoming novel Noir, I knew I had to read it. This mix of intriguing characters and the film noir style is simply too good to miss. The cover already has me chuckling, but knowing Moore’s reputation, I have a feeling that’s just a part of the picture!
“The absurdly outrageous, sarcastically satiric, and always entertaining New York Times bestselling author Christopher Moore returns in finest madcap form with this zany noir set on the mean streets of post-World War II San Francisco, and featuring a diverse cast of characters, including a hapless bartender; his Chinese sidekick; a doll with sharp angles and dangerous curves; a tight-lipped Air Force general; a wisecracking waif; Petey, a black mamba; and many more.
San Francisco. Summer, 1947. A dame walks into a saloon . . .
It’s not every afternoon that an enigmatic, comely blonde named Stilton (like the cheese) walks into the scruffy gin joint where Sammy “Two Toes” Tiffin tends bar. It’s love at first sight, but before Sammy can make his move, an Air Force general named Remy arrives with some urgent business. ’Cause when you need something done, Sammy is the guy to go to; he’s got the connections on the street.
Meanwhile, a suspicious flying object has been spotted up the Pacific coast in Washington State near Mount Rainer, followed by a mysterious plane crash in a distant patch of desert in New Mexico that goes by the name Roswell. But the real weirdness is happening on the streets of the City by the Bay.
When one of Sammy’s schemes goes south and the Cheese mysteriously vanishes, Sammy is forced to contend with his own dark secrets—and more than a few strange goings on—if he wants to find his girl.
Think Raymond Chandler meets Damon Runyon with more than a dash of Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes All Stars. It’s all very, very Noir. It’s all very, very Christopher Moore.”
what a fun cover there!
Oooh nice pick! I read a few of his books ages ago! Digging this cover though! Lol! So cool! Hope you love it!
Here’s my WoW
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Yeah, he’s written a ton of books! I can’t believe I’ve been a fantasy blogger for so long without reading any of them 😛
I love Christopher Moore and have read probably 5-6 books from him, if not more. In fact, it’s a great time to read The Stupidest Angel. I didn’t know he had a new book coming out but this one sounds like a lot of fun!
Wow, I didn’t realize you were such a big fan of Moore! I’m glad to hear you enjoy his books, I am very excited to read this one now 🙂
I love Christopher Moore and have read most of his early books (before blogging). I’ve met him a couple of times too and have some signed books. He’s super nice!
That’s so awesome! Yeah, I seem to recall it was either you or Lynn (or maybe both!) who is a big fan of his. My request for Noir just got approved over on Edel too, so now I’m really looking forward to read my first Moore book 🙂
Is that a War-of-the-worlds Martian hand/tentacle peeking over the “R” in the title? If so, it would only be the cherry on top of what promises to be a very tasty cake! 😀
I believe it’s some kind of alien appendage, yes! LOL! I caught that too, and thought it was awesome 🙂
Looks fun! I haven’t read Moore either but this one sounds great.
I’d not heard of this author – is that bad? :O This cover looks super old which is definitely eye-catching. 😀 I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
Have a fantastic week, Mogsy. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Yeah, I definitely dig the old throwback cover! Very fitting 😀
Yay, I have a copy of this too – so excited to pick it up (soon that is).
And yeah – that cover 😀
My request just got approved as well, so excited!
