Waiting on Wednesday 01/27/16

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Mogsy’s Pick:

And The Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich: September 6, 2016 (Little Brown Books for Young Readers)

Dawn Kurtagich really impressed me with her debut YA novel The Dead House last year and I’m eager to read her next book. The book will also be published a couple months earlier in the UK under a different title (The Creeper Man) and just look at the cover for that edition…yeeeeah, that’s not creepy at all…

And the Trees Crept In The Creeper Man

US vs. UK version

“A spine-chilling psychological thriller from stunning YA talent and author of THE DEAD HOUSE, Dawn Kurtagich.

When Silla and her little sister, Nori, escape London and their abusive father, Aunt Cath’s country house feels like a safe haven. Leaving the smog and fear behind, the girls have the love and freedom they never had in their violent home. But slowly, ever so slowly, things begin to unravel.

Aunt Cath locks herself in the attic and spends day and night pacing; every day the surrounding forest inches slowly towards the house; a mysterious boy appears from the enclosing wood offering friendship, and Nori claims that a man watches them from the dark forest. A man with no eyes who creeps ever closer. . .

Psychologically sinster and creepily atmospheric, Dawn’s second YA title is sure to grip fans of Stephen King, Kendare Blake and James Dawson.”

  1. Great pick! I had this as my WoW choice at the end of last year although only the UK cover/title was available then and can’t wait to read it! I don’t know which I like more, the UK or the US as they’re both creepy in their own way!

    • When the US title and cover came out, I actually thought they were two different books until I saw their descriptions. I wonder why such a different direction for the two regional editions!

    • Yeah, the US cover was just recently released, along with the edition description. At first I thought they were two different books! I was like, wow, the author sure has been busy 🙂

  2. Super.Creepy. If the story is a creepy as the covers, I’d be done – I’m such a scaredy cat >.< If the pacing is as well done as the blurb describes, I could see this being amazing! Since it's YA, I'd probably be good with it though, so thanks for putting it on my radar my friend XD

    • I wonder as well. I know sometimes changing the book’s title makes a book fit more into a given market, or make it more attractive (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone, Midnight Riot/Rivers of London, etc.) but for this one I am mystified. Perhaps the title and cover was deemed too “scary” for YA in the US? Who knows 🙂
