Mogsy’s Pick:
And The Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich: September 6, 2016 (Little Brown Books for Young Readers)
Dawn Kurtagich really impressed me with her debut YA novel The Dead House last year and I’m eager to read her next book. The book will also be published a couple months earlier in the UK under a different title (The Creeper Man) and just look at the cover for that edition…yeeeeah, that’s not creepy at all…
US vs. UK version
“A spine-chilling psychological thriller from stunning YA talent and author of THE DEAD HOUSE, Dawn Kurtagich.
When Silla and her little sister, Nori, escape London and their abusive father, Aunt Cath’s country house feels like a safe haven. Leaving the smog and fear behind, the girls have the love and freedom they never had in their violent home. But slowly, ever so slowly, things begin to unravel.
Aunt Cath locks herself in the attic and spends day and night pacing; every day the surrounding forest inches slowly towards the house; a mysterious boy appears from the enclosing wood offering friendship, and Nori claims that a man watches them from the dark forest. A man with no eyes who creeps ever closer. . .
Psychologically sinster and creepily atmospheric, Dawn’s second YA title is sure to grip fans of Stephen King, Kendare Blake and James Dawson.”
That is sure creepy good

Great pick! I had this as my WoW choice at the end of last year although only the UK cover/title was available then and can’t wait to read it! I don’t know which I like more, the UK or the US as they’re both creepy in their own way!

When the US title and cover came out, I actually thought they were two different books until I saw their descriptions. I wonder why such a different direction for the two regional editions!

Yeah, I really liked the US cover for the Dead House as well, for once probably more than a UK version 🙂

I’ve seen the UK cover but this is the first I’ve seen the US one. Sounds super creepy! I still NEED to read The Dead House.

Yeah, the US cover was just recently released, along with the edition description. At first I thought they were two different books! I was like, wow, the author sure has been busy 🙂

Super.Creepy. If the story is a creepy as the covers, I’d be done – I’m such a scaredy cat >.< If the pacing is as well done as the blurb describes, I could see this being amazing! Since it's YA, I'd probably be good with it though, so thanks for putting it on my radar my friend XD

Yeah, I have yet to read a TRULY scary YA novel, so I think you’re fine 😉 In spite of that, I think creepy YA is always fun to read!

Between the title on the U.S. cover and the image on the UK one, this book promises to be delightfully scary. A forest inching toward the house day after day… Yes, it’s my kind of terrifying story! 🙂

This looks ace – I’ve not seen it before (I know for sure I would remember that UK cover!)
Will definitely add this to wishlist.

I have to wonder why they do that. Different cover, sure, but why the title change? And the titles are SO different.

I like the US cover more tbh. Sounds intriguing!

Personally, I like the UK much more – but they are both good. Maybe this a dumb question, but why would they publish the book under two different titles?

I wonder as well. I know sometimes changing the book’s title makes a book fit more into a given market, or make it more attractive (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone, Midnight Riot/Rivers of London, etc.) but for this one I am mystified. Perhaps the title and cover was deemed too “scary” for YA in the US? Who knows 🙂
