Waiting on Wednesday 04/01/15

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Mogsy’s Pick:

Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig: September 4, 2015 (Del Rey)

I was like aasfdsfjkjlsdfffff;;; when I first saw the nerdgasm-inducing news about this book on Starwars.com. I reacted just as you would expect from someone who just found out two of their favorite things are coming together in one epic package. Chuck Wendig. Star Wars.  MUST READ.

And that’s not all. Aftermath is significant because it will bridge the Star Wars timeline between Return of the Jedi and the much anticipated upcoming Star Wars film Episode VII The Force Awakens. That’s pretty huge. As a Chuck Wendig fan with a rabid love for Star Wars, I really can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

Aftermath“Journey to The Force Awakens.

The second Death Star is destroyed. The Emperor and his powerful enforcer, Darth Vader, are rumored to be dead. The Galactic Empire is in chaos.

Across the galaxy, some systems celebrate, while in others Imperial factions tighten their grip. Optimism and fear reign side by side.

And while the Rebel Alliance engages the fractured forces of the Empire, a lone Rebel scout uncovers a secret Imperial meeting…”

    • The EU books need some fresh blood, imo. I’m actually really glad they’re pulling in more well known and diverse authors, but yes that means I’m reading a lot more SW books and considering how many there are the deluge is killing me.

  1. I’m with Nathan – stop teasing us with respectable authors entering the Star Wars EU. As interested as I am in new stories, gap fillers just don’t motivate me. Chuck’s a big temptation, and this is a different sort of gap that might provide some insights into the movie, but I still don’t know . . .

    • That’s one of the reasons why I’m looking forward to this one a lot more than the others. I hope it will give us insight into the new movie, and I believe from what I’ve seen on Wendig’s blog, there will be some.

  2. How did this book escape my notice? I thought I was tuned in to all things Wendig, LOL! I don’t usually follow the Star Wars universe, but I’m sure curious to see what Chuck does with it!

  3. Yea, I am going to admit — not a huge star wars fan. Probably more of a trekkie, but the reboots. Basically, I am the worst, and I know it. haha.

  4. I’ve heard a lot of people grumbling about the quality of some of the recent Star Wars books (I wouldn’t know – haven’t read any!), so bringing in a fan favourite and respected author like Chuck Wendig is a great idea. Fingers crossed that it’s awesome!

    • I think it’s great too, I’m sure they want to bring new readers to the Star Wars books, and getting all these well known spec-fic writers to do them is probably working.
