Friday Face-Off: Winter
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
~ a WINTRY cover
Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones
In honor of winter solstice which is fast approaching, today’s theme is anything wintry, cold, or seasonal. I’ve decided to go with Wintersong, a retelling of Labyrinth. “The last night of the year. Now the days of winter begin and the Goblin King rides abroad, searching for his bride…” When her older sister is taken by the goblins, protagonist Liesl offers herself to the Goblin King instead, but to be his Queen is to also sacrifice her life.
Let’s take a look at the covers:
From left to right:
Thomas Dunne Books (2017) – German Edition (2017)
Hungarian Edition (2017) – Indonesian Edition (2018)
Winner:
I love the pure, delicate look of the Thomas Dunne edition, but I think I might prefer the German edition just a tad more! The red/white/black theme gets me every time!
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
I have to agree with you. There’s something about the red and black that makes it simple but striking.

Interesting that it’s a retelling of Labryinth. I’ve been going through my DVD’s recently and found a copy of that. 🙂 My favorite cover is the Thomas Dunne edition. It reminds me of a Beast in Black song called Blind and Frozen whose video sort of tells a tragic love story where the woman ends up trapped and frozen inside a glass globe.

Haha, I think we just watched the movie again recently because it was on Netflix or Disney+ I can’t remember. That’s a great movie to pull up and watch every once in a while! And I love the connotations you got form that Thomas Dunne cover!

Ahh, this choice is just perfect for this week and it’s precisely what I had in mind at the time – although I haven’t read this one. I love your favourite – it stands out so well with the red fruits.
