Friday Face-Off: High Stylized
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
~ a HIGHLY STYLIZED cover
Mogsy’s Pick:
The Devourers by Indra Das
It’s a shame that one of my stylized covers is to a book I’ve not read yet, but I just love it so much! There are only two covers available, so this should be pretty straightforward.
Del Rey (2016) vs. Penguin (2015)
Winner:
Originally I had only the Del Rey cover in mind, but actually both are pretty cool. Different styles for different moods, I guess.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
I like your choice. It feels like Jugendstil!

Haha, I had to look that up. Yep, I see it!

Isn’t that a foreign word in English? What do you call that style?

I think I like that one better too! Something about that one 🙂

I love how colorful it is, for one!

Difficult choice… I like the one you picked because that face coming out of the leaves is very intriguing, but the growling wolf (?) is equally interesting… 🙂

Agreed, they’re both stunning for their own reasons. It would come down to one’s mood at the time 🙂

I think the Del Rey cover is more highly stylized, but I prefer the Penguin cover. I love the main wolf head image and how it’s split, and how there’s a wolf silhouette along the treeline just inside the left eye on the horizon. Both cool covers, though.

Agreed, they’re both really cool! Thanks for pointing out the additional details on the wolf cover though, I missed them!

I love your choice this week, also a book I haven’t read but I’ve adored that cover since the first time I saw it.

I feel the same way! That’s why I felt compelled to use the book today, even though I haven’t read it 😀

I think this one comes down to personal taste, but I far prefer the Del Rey offering – the colouring and the detail is gorgeous.

Yes, I really think it comes down to personal taste or the viewer’s mood at the time. They’re both stunning covers, though I went with more color too.
