Teaser Tuesday & Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Tiara’s Teaser
Page 47: "To be a European Christian (the rest of the world be forgiven for thinking) was to build ships and sail them to any and all coasts not already a-bristle with cannons, make landfall at river's mouth, kiss dirt, plant a cross on a flag, scare the hell out of any indigenes with a musketry demo and--having come so far, and suffered and risked so much--unpack a shallow basin and scoop up some muck from the river bottom." Neal Stephenson, Quicksilver
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. They created the meme because they love lists. Who doesn’t love lists? They wanted to share these list with fellow booklovers and ask that we share in return to connect with our fellow book lovers. To learn more about participating in the challenge, stop by their page dedicated to it and dive in!
This week’s topic: Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors
Tiara’s Picks
I love so many authors that it’s literally impossible for me to choose ten definitively, so I just kind of tossed some authors I love into a randomizer, and this is what I got. These are not in any order, and these barely even touch the tip of the iceberg of my favorite authors. So, I’ll just add a couple of my (current since this always subject to change) favorite books by them. Not all speculative, but many of these stories could fall into the realm of magical realism as well (such as Marquez’s Of Love and Other Demons). Click on the covers to be taken to their Goodreads pages.
And I think that’s the best I can do with this meme for the week.

I’m sad to say that they’re quite all new to me.

Oh no! Don’t look at it as being sad. Just think of it as new authors/books to discover. 🙂

Ursula Le Guin! 😀 I’d actually go so far as to say she’s my favorite writer of all time. She’s so versatile and delivers an effortless, lyrical style in whatever she writes.

I agree. Her writing is just always so thoughtful. If this were a life and death situation and I really had to choose 10 of my favorite authors of all-time, I feel like she’d make the cut for sure.

I need to read more Gaiman. Yep, that is what your list reminded me! Also, I thought about Brian K Vaughan because I love Saga, but I feel like I need to read more from him.

Sandman was how I was introduced to Gaiman. American Gods is what made me decide he might be a favorite. I think I started my book affair with BKV while he was writing Marvel’s Runaways (which is another series I love and should’ve included on here). I think the only thing I haven’t read by BKV is probably Ex Machina, and I plan to remedy that soon.

Wow, a lot of your TTT picks are new to me Tiara, which is kind of a bummer. I definitely do need to read some Neil Gaiman asap though. Same goes for Toni Morrison^^

Don’t think of it as a bummer! Think of it as a new discovery. This is how I find new authors and books to try because many people have lists with authors I’m unfamiliar with.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to finish Y: The Last Man. As long as it’s been I should probably start over.

Just doing my public service. If you do restart, let me know. I need to reread this series myself.

Ha! Love Brian K. Vaughan, I still need to read his other series. And I love this Teaser Tuesday meme, I tempted to go put one together 🙂

You should! I combine it with the TTT because I saw some other people did that and thought that it definitely is short enough to combine the two and was certainly right my alley since I tend to quote books on Goodreads all day long. LOL.

I have read some of those 🙂

Great list. It’s been ages since I’ve read any Allende – I must go and check out what she’s up to.

Yay for Bujold! She made my list as well and I just don’t think she gets enough love. I think Paladin of Souls is my favorite of hers. Allende is an author I haven’t read in years but her books are great! I need to start reading her again.

Bujold is amazing. I can’t quite remember what made me read her book. I can’t remember if another friend was reading her or she was on some recommendation list I got from someone or if Goodreads recommended it or what, but I loved Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. I’ve started her space opera, but I think I still love these first two books I read by her the most.

GOOD CHOICES. And a couple I have never read (Buettner, Harris, and Bujold)!
