Waiting on Wednesday 06/25/14

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Mogsy’s Pick:
Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne: January 13, 2015 (Del Rey/LucasBooks)
The Empire and Rebellion series features stand alone books about Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in the time just after the destruction of the Death Star. Cool, right? And better yet, they have gotten some of the most talented authors in speculative fiction to write them. I’m super excited for the third book which will finally star Luke, brought to us by Kevin Hearne who is probably best known for his Iron Druid Chronicles. If you’re unfamiliar with that series, it’s a fun urban fantasy about a wise-cracking immortal druid who runs an occult bookshop and lives with his talking dog Oberon. Star Wars will probably be a huge departure from that style, but I’m really looking forward to see how Hearne will do it.
“The Galactic Civil War rages on after the destruction of the Death Star and Luke Skywalker struggles to learn more about the Force without the aid of Obi-Wan Kenobi – or indeed without any aid at all. But the few memories he has of Obi-Wan’s instruction point the way to a stronger control of the Force, and he is encouraged to pursue it by a new friend in the Alliance. When Luke, R2-D2 and his new ally are tasked with liberating a valuable asset from the Empire and delivering her to a safe planet where she can aid the Alliance, their journey across the galaxy is fraught with peril – and opportunities for Luke to discover the mysteries of the Force.“

I have the first one in the Druid series but I should try it! I’m not sure this one would be for me but who knows.

I’m curious too, but I do think the Druid series will be right up your alley!

Is it possible to be a Star Wars fan when I haven’t even seen/read the full thing? Because I am. And those are two awesome picks!

But is it canon?!
=) I honestly lost track

These take place within the movies so I want to say these can still be canon? And if not, then headcanon trumps all.

LOL who knows anymore. I’m going to go with Wendy on this one, just because they nixed the EU, no need throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I didn’t know he wrote Star Wars books (but then I don’t follow Star Wars books so hence me being oblivious haha.

My response is pretty much, just ditto this 😀

This would be his first. In fact, each book in this Empire and Rebellion series has gotten SFF talent who are also first-time SW writers I think. Excellent author choices though – Martha Wells, James S.A. Corey and Kevin Hearne, when I saw the names it made me weep with joy.

Or crikey! They’ve got a fresh infusion then. I’ve always been intimidated by how MANY SW books there are. My sister used to devour them (heck she has a storm trooper emblem as her tramp stamp!) I don’t know if I’d be willing to take the plunge
