Waiting on Wednesday 07/29/15

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Mogsy’s Pick:

Thunderbird by Chuck Wendig: April 5, 2016 (Saga Press)

Hooray, the new Miriam Black book is on the horizon! This series is fun and I’ve enjoyed the previous books a lot. Despite their dark and violent nature, I love the character and her dry sense of humor. I was so glad to see the cover of this one finally revealed earlier this week. Sure, it doesn’t have the same look as the original artwork of the first three books published by Angry Robot (which had way more personality, in my humble opinion) but there are reissues from Saga Press to match.

Thunderbird“In the fourth installment of the Miriam Black series, Miriam heads to the southwest in search of another psychic who may be able to help her understand her curse, but instead finds a cult of domestic terrorists and the worst vision of death she’s had yet. Miriam Black is being developed as a TV series by Starz with the producers of Breaking Bad.

Miriam is becoming addicted to seeing her death visions, but she is also trying out something new: Hope. She is in search of another psychic who can help her with her curse, but finds a group of domestic terrorists in her deadliest vision to date.”

    • I love the old covers because of the art style which had a lot of character (no pun intended!) and oh, I could have sworn you’ve already read the first three books.

  1. I have to admit that I’m a bad SFF fan and have yet to give Chuck Wendig a read. I’ve had the best of intentions, and have a few of his books on the shelves, but just haven’t got there.

    • Oh hey, I didn’t even notice that! I guess they figure his last name has enough recognition that all they need to do is plaster the cover with Wendig 😀

    • Like I commented above, Miriam Black would be a good place to start – though these books are very dark and very brutal, violent. There were a few parts in the first book that made me really queasy. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

  2. OMFG – I love these books. Love THEM. Thank you thank you thank you for the release date – I could kiss you for that (people would talk though) so a virtual hug instead.
Mmm, I do prefer the original covers. I thought they were really unique and I loved the sort of dusty quality of them with all sorts of bits and bobs thrown in for good measure that you don’t at first pick up on.

    • Haha, virtual hug right back at you! 🙂

And I agree with you on the original covers. They were definitely unique and spoke a lot more about the artist’s style.

    • Yeah, I had the ebooks/audiobooks so I never realized just how much INSANE detail was in the artwork for those covers! I once saw one in a bookstore, I think. I was mesmerized trying to spot all these birds lol.
