Friday Face-Off: The Hood
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
~ a cover featuring a HOODED FIGURE
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
I read this book around the time it came out, I can’t believe it’s been so many years! Whenever someone mentions the “hooded figure” in fantasy though, these covers always come to mind.
From left to right:
Orbit (2008) –Spanish Edition (2010) – Romanian Edition (2017)
French Edition (2009) – Danish Edition (2015) – Chinese Edition (2010)
Russian Edition (2010) – Greek Edition (2015) – Turkish Edition (2013)
Winner:
It’s been a while since I read this book, and a lot of these international covers I’m only now seeing for the very first time. There are a few gems, like the French or Russian editions, but in this case, I think familiarity actually breeds comfort. That’s why I’m going with the original Orbit cover this week, as there’s just something so classic about it that I still find appealing after all this time.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
Yep, I concur with your concluding paragraph. This IS the cover 😀

Ohhh, nothing says “assassin” like the figure on the cover of your choice! 🙂

It’s definitely very “assassin-y”!

I have decided to pick up this series somewhere in future as Weeks sold me on his Lightbringer series. Love the cover you went for.

I wish I finished his Lightbringer! But yes, this was the trilogy that made me a fan 😀

You had some trouble with certain plot points in LB? I know it was a difficult series to get through…

I haven’t read these books (and Weeks just isn’t for me), so I don’t have the strong connection with a certain cover like you. The French one is Amazing though…

I do love that one a lot – it really says “epic”!

Good pick! I am drawn to the French cover, although that Orbit cover does have a nice classic feel to it😁

I agree, you really can’t go wrong with either!

I like the French cover. Almost reminds me of the Ravenloft D&D module, for some reason. I have the series in a single volume on my bookshelf but have yet to try it, and I don’t even recall what the cover looks like.

Out of all the choices, that one really screams “epic fantasy” – good call!

I’d go with Orbit’s too Mogsy!

Totally agree with you on this. I like the French cover as well, but the Orbit one wins for me. I really enjoyed reading this series and was hoping for more books in it.

Yeah, the Orbit is classic – and I really liked this trilogy too, makes me wonder what Weeks will be doing next, now that Lightbringer is done.
