An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard
For today’s theme, I’ve chosen Kat Howard’s sophomore novel about a hidden world of magic and power. In this “Unseen World”, members of elite magical houses come together every few years to duke it out in a tournament called the Turning, with each family represented by their chosen champion. Ostensibly held to place each house in a hierarchical order based on magical proficiency, the competition may in fact be a front for a more nefarious purpose.

I remember when I first saw it, I thought the Saga Press cover was plain, but over time I’ve come to appreciate the monochrome which leaves the shadows to do the dramatic work. So even with the newer designs of the other editions, I think that remains my favorite.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?

I also would pick the Saga Press edition. It’s surprising how much detail there is😁

They’re all very good, but I’ll go with the German edition.

The Saga Press cover is my favorite for sure! It’s simple but I think that gives it an elegance.

I love your choice, it’s subtle and subdued almost and the way the branches twist through the title is intriguing.

I agree. I think they did a great job creating a minimalist design that still has loads of detail. It’s a very nice balance.

Saga is indeed simple and yet complex
I like the Russian, but as always they somehow miss the mark. Is it the border around the book? Is it the title?

I’ve had the same thing happen with covers in the past with them growing on me. I’m between your choice & the last one I think.
