2021 Audiobook Challenge
Here we go again! We love audiobooks here at The Bibliosanctum for a variety of reasons, from distraction while doing chores to just enjoying a good story being read by an awesome narrator. We also love to undertake a good challenge, especially when it coincides with our love of reading.
Caffeinated Reviewer and That’s What I’m Talking About are hosting the annual Audiobook Challenge for 2021, and of course I’ll be participating again. Below, you’ll see the challenge details as well as the different levels. As you can see, there’s a new goal added this year for 75 audiobooks! I’m excited, because I’ve been wanting this category for a while, for those of us who can hit more than 50 but can’t quite make 100.
If you want to take part, make sure to check out the sign-up page for this year’s challenge, and also head on over to the Goodreads group. We hope you’ll join us!
Challenge Details
- Runs January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021. You can join at any time.
- The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2021 than you did in 2020.
- Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
- ANY genres count.
- Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
- You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc.
- If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweet about the challenge.
- Updates plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year. The first update will be July 2, 2021, and the last update will take place on December 30, 2021.
Levels
- Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
- Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
- Stenographer (can listen while multitasking) 10-15
- Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
- Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
- My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30+
- Marathoner (Look Ma No Hands) 50+
- Over-Achiever (Power Listener) 75+
- The 100 Club (Audiobook Addict) 100+
Mogsy’s Goals
There wasn’t the Over-Achiever level last year, but I aimed for 75 and was just shy of meeting my goal. This year though, I think I can do it! So that’s what I’m going to shoot for.
Do you listen to audiobooks? Will you try doing the audiobook challenge this year? Let us know your thoughts!
I think this is such a fun challenge and it’s something I would love to participate if times were normal. I live away from family for work so audiobooks used to be something I would listen to while travelling. I also listened to them on my commute to work but I now work from home and travelling is very restricted.
Thanks for sharing this because it’s definitely something I might consider in the later half of 2021 or next year.
Good luck with your challenge!

Yeah, a lot of people I know listened to audiobooks on their commute, but now that so many are working from home, that’s put a dent in their listening too!

Hmm, maybe I should enter myself as a newbie 🙂

Great idea! I definitely want to try to listen to more audiobooks this year, cos I enjoyed them a lot in 2019, but didn’t listen to as many in 2020- this might be a good way to do it. Good luck!! 😀 And happy New Year!

Happy new year! And yes, this challenge definitely encouraged me to listen more!

Last year I had… 14. So maybe 20? You know, I’m a little surprised you didn’t have more last year, but I guess when school went all online it probably cut into your audibook time. Better luck this year!

It did eat into my listening time, unfortunately! And I also only count audi0books I listen to from beginning to end, and not the ones where I tag team audio and physical – which I do a lot too, for more convenient and efficient reading 😛

That Over-Achiever level was just made for you! It doesn’t seem likely I’ll get beyond My Precious, but why not dream big, right? So I’m going for Marathoner this year.

For sure! I thought last year’s challenge could have used this level and I’m so glad they added it this year – it made more sense to have a 75 level! And good luck to you, you can do this!

You got this 💪🏻
I’ve got no idea how many audiobooks I read last year. I got an email from audible tho stating that the Husband and I have listened to 511 hours, across 91 books (we share the account). But I also listen on Scribd. And I’m too lazy to work it out 😋

Wow! That’s some impressive stats! I didn’t listen as much on audible as much this year, so I get a lot of my audiobooks from other sources, but I wish I had a tracker that kept all these cool stats!

I didn’t know audible would track it, but was happily surprised by it.

Go for it, Mogsy… I seem to be stuck at the Newbie level, but who knows – maybe I’ll upgrade to Weekend Warrior this year 😀

I am glad they put in the 75. I will never reach 100 again, but I will try my best to reach 75 again!

I don’t think I’ve ever reached 100! But I am listening to more and more audiobooks each year, so maybe one day!

I think I could make ‘socially awkward’ – must do an opening post. And happy to see that new level (not that I stand a chance of that but it’s right up your street).

I don’t think I’m joining in this year, my audiobook reading is all over the place, but I’m looking forward to your progress! Good luck!
