The Au Pair by Emma Rous
Welcome to the first Friday Face-Off of 2021! The theme is “Dressed in White” which we were free interpret in any way we wanted, so I’ve decided to go with the most literal meaning, choosing a book that features someone on the cover with white clothing.
The Berkley edition of The Au Pair, which was the version I read, was the book I had in mind. This was a pretty wild and twisted one, even for a thriller! Let’s check out some more of the covers:

Um, I just have to say, many of these covers are VERY confused. You’d think you are picking up some Austenesque country house-type romance, which is definitely NOT what this book is (in fact, the Spanish cover probably comes closest to capturing the true spirit and tone of the story). Still, a few of these “quaint” covers are very pretty, and I think my favorite is the Italian edition, despite it being a poor reflection of what the book is really about.

When I just glanced at the covers before reading your description, I thought this was a romance book. So I agree that they might not represent the book accurately. My favorite is the Spanish cover, which hints at something else than a romance.

Yeah, it’s not really a romance book at all, so I don’t know why they went that route with a lot of these covers!

I agree, these covers are all over the place! I immediately latched on to the Spanish cover, its my favorite 😁

That one is really popular this week, I’m glad since it’s the one that most matches the tone of the story!

I lean towards the Spanish cover, it seemed to stand out from the others. I did also like the Piatkus cover, it has an interesting air of mystery/suspense/dread.

I like the Dutch, but it makes me think this is a romance.

It really does! But some of the more romancey covers are quite nice in spite of that.

What a super strange batch of covers – I’m absolutely intrigued by this novel now just based on how very different these all are. A lot of them look like standard romance/holiday/beach reads? Or is that just me.
