Friday Face-Off: Fae/Fairies
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
~ a cover featuring FAE/FAIRIES
Mogsy’s Pick:
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Believe it or not, I had a tough time finding a book to feature this week. I guess I read a lot of stories featuring fae/fairies, but not a lot of covers actually feature them? Anyway, this Beauty and the Beast meets Tam Lin mashup retelling with fairies is the closest I could find, and it’s a bonus that it has multiple covers that are also quite nice.
From left to right:
Bloomsbury USA Children’s (2015) – Bloomsbury (2020)
German Edition (2017) – Portuguese Edition (2015)
Winner:
These are all so pretty, and I especially like the ones that have the black/white/red theme thing going. I’m going to go with the German edition as my favorite though, because I think it’s gorgeous, and also has the strongest “fairy tale” vibes out of all of them while giving off the sense of being watched. I almost missed the blue bird, which is a nice touch.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
For me, it was a tie between the German and the Portuguese covers. I like the colors used on them.

Agreed, love the colors in Portuguese edition!

I like the German version most, and you nailed the reason for it. It also transports a feeling: I nearly got goosebumps with the winter forest and that barearmed woman.
Now, you must read exactly that version 🤣

The German one, definitely 🙂 Though the book turned out way worse than any of the covers! 😂

LOL! I did not care much for this book either, I’m glad I’m not the only one 😛

I’m leaning towards the Bloomsbury USA Children’s edition. I like the mystery of only showing part of the woman the hints of environment on the right. But I agree, the German edition does have a very fairy tale feel. And I love that bluebird! 🙂

Yeah, the blue bird was a nice touch, and I almost missed it!

I just love the Bloomsbury reissues, so I’ll have to choose that as my favorite. Even if it doesn’t seem to relate to the book much (although I haven’t read this so I’m not sure)

Yeah, I don’t think it matches the tone of the story much, but I do agree it is very beautiful!

I’ve never seen some of these covers. I like one best, but I also like your choice a lot.

My favorite cover is still the first Bloomsbury one! However, I have never seen the others covers and they are very pretty! 🙂

Yeah there is something very classic about the original cover! It’s the one I’m most familiar with too 🙂

I agree – I mean at first glance I like the Portuguese edition because of the swirling roses and branches but I would probably have gone for that if the colours were different.

If I were more of a text cover person, I think I would have gone for the Portuguese edition all the way 😛

Oh, that cover you went with is much better than the original. I’ve never really got the covers for this series they’re so…..well, they could be better LOL

They do have that classic vibe to them, but I think I might be feeling that only because it’s the cover I’m most familiar with, haha! On its face though, it does seem a bit…bland!

I will go Portuguese. The German could have been good, but so busy
