Waiting on Wednesday 10/14/20

Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Mogsy’s Pick

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten (June 15, 2021 by Orbit)

It’s been a while since I featured a retelling, and you know I could never resist a Red Riding Hood tale. The books name-dropped in the blurb are making it even harder to say no!

“The first daughter is for the Throne.
The second daughter is for the Wolf.

For fans of Uprooted and The Bear and the Nightingale comes a dark, sweeping debut fantasy novel about a young woman who must be sacrificed to the legendary Wolf of the Wood to save her kingdom. But not all legends are true, and the Wolf isn’t the only danger lurking in the Wilderwood.

As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose-to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he’ll return the world’s captured gods.

Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can’t control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can’t hurt those she loves. Again.

But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn’t learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood-and her world-whole.”

  1. Hey, that’s the second time I’ve seen this today! 🙂

Sounds like an interesting read – I always love new takes on classic stories.

  2. I do like the sound of this one, but I especially like the cover. It feels very simple but has many elements that all work together and seem to fit at least the description of the story. I still have a copy of The Bear and the Nightingale sitting on my shelf waiting for me to crack it open and give it a try.

  3. I’m a sucker for anything Little Red Riding Hood and already have this on my wishlist. The cover is stunning as well.
