Friday Face-Off: Potions
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
“Hubble bubble”
~ a cover featuring POTIONS
Mogsy’s Pick:
The Sin Eater’s Daughter Series by Melinda Salisbury
I am sad to say I never did finish this series, but the covers for the books were just too hard to pass up for today’s theme! I don’t even think I can choose a clear favorite, as they’re all so vivid and a little unsettling and hypnotic in their imagery. Honestly, I really like them all. So here are the Scholastic Press edition covers for all four books (it’s a trilogy with a companion novella collection) and you guys can decide!
Ooh potions. I like the Sin Eater’s Daughter and The Scarecrow Queen. Those are prob my favorites but these are all good… 🙂

The first one. I also felt they missed a chance with that last one, making the bottle different 😉 But pretty ones!

Yeah, now that you mention it, I thought the different shapes of the bottles were a nice touch too.

These are gorgeous – I also looked at this for this week’s theme. I think my favourite is the Scarecrow Queen – probably the colours appeal to me more.

Yeah the colors for these are all very nice, but there’s definitely something to the orange/green combo!

I love all these covers, Mogsy – and given they are the same brand, with such a variation on the same theme, I simply couldn’t choose. I think they are all inspired. I just nipped across to look at your excellent review of the first book to see if it was something I’d enjoy. Thank you for such a balanced, well written article – which persuaded me that with so many wonderful reads coming up – I’d pass on this one.

Actually, that review might have been written by my co-blogger – I don’t think I actually posted a review for this one because for me it was a library loan and I knew Wendy was writing one already! But I agree, she did a great job!

Ah – sorry about that! I tend not to take sufficient notice of whether it’s you or Wendy writing the reviews, Mogsy:(.

Wow, that’s a tough one. They are so similar in theme, and yet different in certain details. If I had to choose rigth now I’m leaning towards the first one for how well the figure stands out in the bottle compared to the others. Really creative covers.

Yeah, kudos to the artist/designer of these. Love the image of the girls suspended in the bottles…and the red reminds me of blood drops swirling in the liquid!
