Bookshelf Roundup 07/11/20: Stacking the Shelves & Recent Reads
Bookshelf Roundup is a feature I do every weekend which fills the role of several blog memes, like Stacking the Shelves where I talk about the new books I’ve added to my library or received for review, as well as It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? where I summarize what I’ve finished reading in the last week and what I’m planning to read soon. Mostly it also serves as a recap post, so sometimes I’ll throw in stuff like reading challenge progress reports, book lists, and other random bookish thoughts or announcements.
Received for Review
My thanks to the publishers and authors for the following review copies received, and be sure to click the links to their Goodreads pages for more details and full descriptions!
Earlier this week, a surprise arrived from Subterranean Press in the form of Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower by Tamsyn Muir. The author also wrote Gideon the Ninth, and while that book and I got off to a rocky start, by the end I was having a lot more fun, and that’s reason enough to make me keep this ARC on my radar.
I also don’t recall if I had requested a copy of Eventide by Sarah Goodman, but when an ARC ended up landing on my doorstep, I was nonetheless thrilled beyond belief. I’ve been wanting to check this one out!
From the kind folks at Del Rey, I also received a finished copy of Malorie by Josh Malerman, sequel to the acclaimed Bird Box. I already finished this one, and despite not having read the first book, I really enjoyed it! Stay tuned for my review, which should be up in a couple of days.
And what’s this? Only one book in the digital haul this week? Well, I guess lately I’ve been painfully aware of my huge TBR of listening copies I still need to get through, so I’ve been extra diligent in resisting making new requests. With thanks to Listening Library, I snagged a review copy of The Damned by Renée Ahdieh, I can’t wait to listen to this one!
Reviews
Peace Talks by Jim Butcher (5 of 5 stars)
Public Enemy Zero by Andrew Mayne (3.5 of 5 stars)
The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones (3 of 5 stars)
If You See Her by Ania Ahlborn (3 of 5 stars)
Roundup Highlights:
This Week’s Reads
Have you heard of or read any of the books featured this week? What caught your eye? Any new discoveries? I hope you found something interesting for a future read! Let me know what you plan on checking out. Until next time, see you next Roundup!
I‘m no Butcher fan, so I‘ll give that one a pass. The rest, I‘ve never heard of – not even the authors‘ names (apart from Tamsyn). It seems like I‘m living in a different reading world. Are they YA maybe, fantasy romance or horror?

A bit of everything! Malorie is horror, the sequel to Bird Box. The Damned is YA! Eventide is fantasy, but beyond that I don’t know too much more about it.

I like the cover for Obliteration. I see it is a sequel to Awakened. Have you read that?

Yep, read every book so far and this was the last one of the trilogy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t great. Reminds me of how when movies get straight to TV sequels.

I’m counting only FOUR books. One of which you’ve already read? What are you going to do all week???

Catch up with previous week’s pile of course 😛 Now if only every week would allow me to do that with a book or two, I might actually start making a dent in my TBR!

That’s a myth. It’s physically impossible to construct a „dent“ in TBRs. Even thinking about it is considered a blasphemy in several evolved countries. Take care, one never expects the Spanish Inquisition!

None of these immediately jump out at me, other than wanting to try the Dresden Files. But that’s one reason I keep coming back to your review posts, to see if I might be overlooking something worth checking out.

OOh nice! I got The Damned as well and started it asap! Not as fast a reader as most, but I’m liking it so far! Just wish I had more time to sit and read but there’s always something else that needs doing even on weekends. Lol.
Lots of new to me reads! I was curious about The Dead Girl’s Club last year. I’ll be interested in seeing your thoughts on it!
Happy Reading!
My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!

Yay! Only three more Dresden Files to read and I can pick up Peace Talks!! So glad you gave it such a wonderful rating – though I’ll hold off reading your review until I’m a little further along! 😉

I want to read The Damned/The Beautiful so bad! I’ve heard so many good things about the series, and everyone seems to love it!

I really enjoyed The Beautiful! I really couldn’t understand some of the mixed reviews I was seeing, as usually I’m the one who’s super picky about YA books, lol!

I didn’t know Muir had another book coming out besides the Gideon sequel. I’m curious to see what this one is about. I need to order a copy of The Damned. But maybe I should read The Beautiful first….nah!

Same, the Muir book was a new one to me! It looks interesting from the blurb though, so I hope it’s good!

I think the universe is trying to tell me to catch up with the Dresden FIles. Okay okay, I will.
Seriously though – two books out this year.
