Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning
Today’s theme posed a bit of a challenge, not so much because of the lack of choices (I actually went through a historical romance phase in my late teens) but I wanted to feature something with a bit more variety and…some zing. In the end, I went with the fifth book of Fever, an urban fantasy series which became steadily more paranormal romance as it went on. Let’s take a look at the covers:

I usually go for “People” covers over “Pattern” covers, but this one is just so pretty, and the red and golds really draw the eye.

Yes, I loved the variety which is why I chose this book, even though I probably had others that matched the theme more 😛

I really loved this series when I read it oh so long ago. I dropped off after the 5th book though. I kind of like the Dell edition but then it also has aspects of the one you picked.

I went beyond and read the sixth – huge mistake! The series really went downhill after book 5, so you didn’t miss much 😛

When I saw this theme my mind eventually went to Kushiel, though I don’t know if any of those covers would have fit. I still need to start that series. But with this book I completely agree with your choice. I really like that cover, the sort of abstract nature of it, the beautiful color choice, the mirrored patterns and locks, and how it almost looks as if we’re seeing the results of the bodice already having been ripped, with the fascinating winged tattoos on the back. And it brings back memories of some interesting tattoos I saw in college.

Same, I think it’s the tattoo motif. I didn’t even think about the bared backs alluding to “already ripped bodices” but you’re right, it fits the theme well and I’m going to go with that 😉

I had a hard time today as I don’t read bodice-ripper anymore lol. Now I do prefer Dell this time. And from your post and mine (and the one of last week) I think that French editions are really lame (even if it’s in my mother language!)

Haha, my bodice ripper days are long behind me too, but I did have quite a few paranormal romances on my more recent shelves I was able to use, thankfully!

I agree with your choice, there’s something very eye catching about it and the colours work really well together. I do quite like the Dell one too but the other ones more unique.
