Friday Face-Off: Exotic
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
“That which yields, is not always weak”
~ a cover that is EXOTIC
Mogsy’s Pick:
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
When I saw this week’s topic, I immediately thought of City of Brass. Exquisite, spellbinding, and exotic are all words that perfectly describe this gorgeously written novel, and I remember well the way it transported me to its rich world of fantasy and magic. The book has been graced with a couple of beautiful covers as well, and today I want to feature and compare the US and UK editions:
HarperVoyager US (2017) vs. HarperVoyager UK (2018)
Winner:
I’m definitely biased today, as the US version is the one I own, and it is even more stunning in person. I just love the fiery contrast of the colors and gold embossed detail.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
I’ve earmarked this series for future reading, since every review I read was very enthusiastic – and the covers for these books are a further incentive: so very gorgeous! Your choice is quite eye-catching, indeed!

Indeed! And I actually still need to catch up in time for the third book 🙂

Wow both covers are really pretty but I think I’m inclined to gravitate toward the one with blue on it.

It really is interesting how different they are, one with red and one with blue – but both are pretty I agree 🙂

Strangely enough, this was the first book I thought of as well. But I haven’t read this series so I didn’t use it. But I do love the US covers!

This is the only book in the series I’ve read, I’m behind on the second! I need to change that fast before book 3 arrives!

I like both covers. Maybe the UK a bit more, but not a ton. They’re very close. Great pick!

Thanks! I really like both covers too.

I love your choice – it’s a no-brainer:). That light streaming down is absolutely fabulous. I’ve read the 2nd book, but haven’t read the 1st or 3rd one – but definitely want to as I really enjoyed it.

Interesting! Did you feel lost at all, jumping in on book 2? I didn’t think these were stand alone, but I could be wrong…I haven’t read book 2 yet and I need to before book 3 comes out soon 🙂

No… they clearly aren’t standalone, but as crashing midway into series is a hobby of mine, I found I could get my bearings without too much trouble:).

This is a book I’d very much like to read. I’m also more drawn to the US cover, though I do like UK one, as well.

I agree, both are very strong covers! I think I just went with the one I was more familiar with 🙂

I love all the covers for this series, both the UK and the US covers. It’s so hard to pick favorites.
