Get Ready for #SciFiMonth 2019!
You may have noticed the hashtag #SciFiMonth and its related images popping up all over the book blogosphere lately. That’s because November is right around the corner, which means it’s that time of the year again! Yep, it’s Sci-Fi Month. The BiblioSanctum has had such a great time being a part of this event in previous years that we’re participating again in 2019. This year, the hosts are Lisa of Dear Geek Place and Imyril of One More.
Starting tomorrow, we’ll be joining other bloggers, authors, and readers in a month-long celebration of everything science fiction. That doesn’t mean we’ll stop covering all our other favorite speculative fiction genres though! You will most definitely continue to see our usual fantasy reviews, weekly memes and features, spotlights, and all that other fun stuff. The only difference is, some of our reviews and posts will branch off from the usual to encompass the various mediums of science fiction.
The great thing about Sci-Fi Month is that it’s a casual, low-pressure event. It has no deadlines, no specific challenges or quotas to meet–just a month of fun to enjoy, discuss, and share everything science fiction. Sci-Fi Month is whatever you make it, and you are welcome to join anytime. The organizers have also arranged for some pretty exciting features like giveaways, readalongs, and a whole lot of other fun activities including prompt challenges and sci-fi themed Top Tens. So if this is something you’re interested in taking part of, head on over to the Google form to sign up.
After that, grab the banner and button, and dive right in! Everyone is welcome! Be sure to also follow the hashtag #SciFiMonth and follow the event on Twitter @SciFiMonth so you won’t miss a thing!
Here at The BiblioSanctum, simply look for posts tagged with “SciFi November” or those that contain the SciFi Month images and hashtags to see how we’re getting involved. Come explore the wonders of science fiction with us, and to kick off the discussion, feel free to let us know:
How long have you been a fan of science fiction?
Why do you like sci-fi and what is your favorite thing about it?
What are your favorite books/games/films/TV shows in the genre?
What are your plans for Sci-Fi Month?
As for me, I haven’t been on the ball with regards to planning, so once again I’ll be playing things mostly by ear. That being said, I do have a few books I’ve been saving up for November, and I also plan on using this opportunity to catch up with a few science fiction titles I missed reading earlier in the year. Below you’ll find a preview of some of the books I hope to read next month. As you can see, I’m aiming for a good variety, including some humor, some romance, plenty of aliens, a bit of weirdness, a healthy dose of good old fashioned space opera, and of course, some Star Wars!
THATS WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT BLOGGINGGG!!😍😍 Every month is a celebration 🥳 🥳🥳🥳💕💕😍😍😍 I am SOOO excited to read all your SciFi posts, Mogsyyy!! YAYYYY!! 😍😍😍😍🥳🥳👻👻👻

Scifi Month WOOO! Sadly, nanowrimo will consume most of my reading time. Loved Walking to Aldebaran. Fortuna’s really good so far, but a heads up—it has those alternating 1st person POVs that make it kinda hard to keep track of.

Good luck with NaNo! I did it for many years, but recently things just got busy so I had to stop. And thanks for the heads up about Fortuna, I was hoping to do that one in audio so I’m hoping the alternating POVs won’t be too confusing.

I didn’t know there was a sci fi month. I think I have too much to read right now to try and fit some sci fi in too (I have eight library books out and another eight on order 😅 plus I brought a few books last month that I can’t wait to get on with once I’ve read all of this library stuff) but I might give it a try next year as I think I have a fair few sci fi books on my TBR. I look forward to seeing your posts linked to this (:

Yep, it was an event that got started a few years ago and it just really took off! No pressure, if you can join in by reading even one sci-fi book this month, that would count 🙂 It’s really low key and casual which is why I love it and do it every year!

Thats wonderful (: and yes, it is nice that theres no pressure involved. I’ll wait and see what happens, I guess it depends how my reading goes.

I’ve got my first post ready for launch tomorrow! I’m not sure how many I can fit in to read or which books I’m choosing yet but I’m hoping to maybe get five looked at to start with and see how I go. Good luck!

I just love the energy of SciFiMonth! Looks like we have some of the same books planned, although I completely forgot about Fortuna. I requested a copy but haven’t received it yet, so it’s not on my radar yet.

I requested a copy too, but even if it doesn’t arrive on time, I think I’ll be able to get the audiobook *crossing my fingers!*

I am not very good with the pre-planning but most of the books that came in on library hold this month are sci-fi. I am gonna pretend it was on purpose. Arrrr!

Haha, sounds like a plan! I’m never too good when it comes to planning either, but there were a lot of sci-fi releases I couldn’t get too earlier in the year, so many of them got put into the pile this month 😀

Have fun Mogsy!!! My scifi read will hopefully be Starsight by Brandon Sanderson!

That one is on my list too! It’ll release at the end of the month though, so chances are I probably won’t be able to review it until December – but I’m definitely excited for it!

Even though I have a few reviews planned, I mostly play sci-fi month by ear too, but that’s the beauty of the event – there’s always something to blog about 🙂

I can always use a little more sci-fi in my life! I think my first sci-fi read for November will be Sisters of the Vast Black. No clue after that. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on those you read.

I haven’t made any plans for this but was planning on reading Interference. I also have the last GXTodd book to read which I guess sort of fits. I did look at Fortuna but decided not to request being a bit behind already as it is.
Happy reading.
