Friday Face-Off: Scream
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
“It’s your favorite scary movie, remember? He had on the white mask, he stalked the babysitters.”

Mogsy’s Pick:
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Halloween is almost here! To celebrate, I’ll be featuring the classics on Friday Face-Off for the full month of October. This week, we’ll be shining the spotlight on the controversial dystopian satirical black comedy novel by Anthony Burgess. Here are some of the covers:
From left to right:
W. W. Norton & Company A (1986) – W. W. Norton & Company B (2012) – Penguin Essentials (2011)
Ballantine Books (1971) – Penguin Classics (2010) – Penguin Books (1998)
Spanish Edition (2008) – Polish Edition (2007) – Portuguese Edition (2004)
Turkish Edition (2013) – German Edition (1999) – Hungarin Edition (2016)
Lithuanian Edition (2007) – Swedish Edition (2004) – Indonesian Edition (2017)
Winner:
I deliberately left off any of the movie poster/tie-in covers this week, because clearly there are enough cool artistic covers to enjoy. My favorite this week is probably the Turkish Edition.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
I like the Penguin Essentials cover best as I like the skeleton. I hated the film!

I’m with you, I didn’t care for it either!

Honestly, knowing what I know about the story, I just can’t like any of them 😦

I agree, it’s pretty sick.

A great choice of covers for this week’s subject – I struggled a bit with this one… My favourite is the 1971 Ballentine cover, not only do I like it, it’s the cover I recall on the edition that I read.

Yeah, I struggled as well, so I had to look at the classics…but seeing as that is my theme for the month, it worked out 🙂

It certainly did:))

Oh this was a great idea! I actually love the Ballentine edition, probably because it’s the one I see most often.

Haha yeah I see that one a lot too, but it looks too happy for this book 😛

Hands down I love the Penguin Essentials the best!

Nope, nope, I refuse to pick a winner. These suck

Yeah, can’t say there was any one that stood out, but some of these weren’t too bad.

Great choice. I’ve never read this book and I’m not sure why really – something scares me about it. I like your choice with the figures and their shadows at the forefront.

Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from. It’s just one of those books…

Having read the book and seen the movie, I can really appreciate your choice which combines both, especially the visuals of the hat and the silhouettes of the gang’s members. I would not have readily thought about this one with today’s theme, but on hindsight it was quite appropriate…😀

I wouldn’t have thought of this for this week’s theme either, but then I noticed a few of the “forced eye open scream” covers show up on my goodreads and figured why not 🙂

My favorite is the Penguin Essentials (2011) one which doesn’t really seem to fit with the rest of the covers tho? My second favorite is the one you picked!!

You’re right, it doesn’t! It almost looks a bit goofy 😀

This is a tough one for me this week! I think I actually like the German or Penguin ”98 one the best?

The German edition is really neat! I almost chose that one as my winner, definitely my second choice.

Oh nice one. I think these are all weird and creepy, but I guess that’s the point? Definitely like the one you picked best. 🙂

Your pick is my absolute fav, but I kinda like the Polish Edition (2007) one too. It’s over-the-top to me and for some reason I like that.

Oh dear I didn’t know this was a book either 😅 although to be fair I don’t have a clue what the film is even about, I just recognize the name. Anyway my favourite covers the Penguin one at the top although I’m not entirely sure why.

Really like the Turkish edition as well!
