Friday Face-Off: A Wrap-Around Cover
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
“~ a WRAP-AROUND COVER
Mogsy’s Pick:
The Memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan
Today I’m doing something a little different by comparing the covers of all the books in a single series – and what a great series this is! The Memoirs of Lady Trent is one of my all-time favorites, and each volume is graced with a wrap-around book jacket featuring the gorgeous dragon artwork of fantasy artist Todd Lockwood.
Let’s take a look at them now:
A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan (2013)
The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan (2014)
The Voyage of the Basilisk by Marie Brennan (2015)
In the Labyrinth of Drakes by Marie Brennan (2016)
Within the Sanctuary of Wings by Marie Brennan (2017)
Winner:
Almost impossible to choose a favorite considering how they’re all so beautiful, though I confess to being somewhat partial to anything to do with the ocean and maritime fantasy. So it’s The Voyage of the Basilisk for me!
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
Oh, what a lovely approach you’ve used here – and it doesn’t hurt that I also absolutely love this series and am beyond excited that Brennan is bringing out a book featuring Lady Trent’s granddaughter… I have to go with your favourite, too. Though they are all exquisite:)). I think you’ve nailed this challenge!

I know, I can’t wait for the new series! I was sad that Lady’s Trent’s tale is over, but so appropriate that the torch has been passed to her granddaughter!

I own all of these and really need to read them one day. I managed to snag them from Book Outlet for cheap. Maybe if I had read them I’d had realized the covers wrapped around!

Haha, I picked up the first book at Book Outlet too! I’d seen the cover and was intrigued by the artwork, and so when I saw it available at BO I just couldn’t resist the awesome price. Thank goodness, because I discovered this awesome series.

Basilisk is my favorite too, but then I always love stuff like sea dragons and sea serpents. 🙂 Stunninjg cover. After that my next fave would be Sanctuary of Wings (love that title BTW)!

Same here, I love the maritime theme! And I just realized that sea dragon must be HUGE using the other sea creatures as scale!

I didn’t know these were wrap around covers! That is really cool 😀 I think I like In the Labyrinth of Drake best because of the little dragon in the front right corner

Yup. I love these covers. In fact they’re possibly one of my favourite sets of covers – which is pretty impressive considering how many covers are out there. It’s very difficult to choose, I have a special ‘spot’ for the first cover – it just completely wowed me at the time because it felt so unique, but, on balance I think I would probably go for the cover you’ve chosen.

Yes, I love the one I chose, but the cover of the first book also has a special place in my heart. It was the image that led me to pick up the first book and discover this amazing series, after all! I still remember seeing that image and thinking, wow, that’s really cool, I wonder what this is all about…and the rest was history 😀
