Friday Face-Off: Seasonal
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy! Each Friday, we will pit cover against cover while also taking the opportunity to showcase gorgeous artwork and feature some of our favorite book covers. If you want to join the fun, simply choose a book each Friday that fits that week’s predetermined theme, post and compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.
This week’s theme is:
“Ho, ho, ho!”
~ a SEASONAL cover
Mogsy’s Pick:
The Wolves of Midwinter by Anne Rice
I’m not a big reader of “seasonal” or “holiday” books, and since I already featured Joe Hill’s NOS4R2 in a previous Friday Face-Off, this week I’m going to have to once again bend the rules a little with a book I’ve not read before. Somehow, I just never found the time to get to The Wolves of Midwinter, even though I read its predecessor The Wolf Gift and thought it was decent enough. The story, obviously, takes place around midwinter, and promises a Christmas like no other…
Let’s take a look at the covers:
From left to right:
Knopf Hardcover (2013) – Anchor Paperback (2014)
Chatto & Windus (2013) – French Edition (2014) – Portuguese Edition (2014)
Spanish Edition (2014) – Polish Edition (2014)
Winner:
None of these covers are real standouts this week, but if I had to go with the one I like the most, it would probably be the Knopf Hardcover edition.
But what do you think? Which one is your favorite?
My fav is the Spanish edition but your is a close second!

The Spanish one is a close second for me, very moody! 🙂

I would pick the same cover. That is the one that would make me curious to pick this book off a shelf and find out what it is about.

That cover would make me curious to see what the book is all about too!

Oh yes – your choice is just so pretty – and would definitely make me want to read it. I also think the Portuguese cover would have been a contender, if only they hadn’t stuck that wolf face onto it. There’s such a thing as trying too hard…

I agree with you on the Portuguese cover. And the font is also horrid 😀

The Spanish edition is the only one I like because of the gorgeous wolf on it!

I do like how the wolf is front and center!

I may have to reread book one because I really liked it and meant to pick up #2 but never did. I like the cover you chose but a VERY close second is the Spanish edition.

I’m in the same boat. Now if I pick up book two, I’ll probably be lost because I don’t remember much from book one!

I love the one you picked! It’s funny, we picked different books, but out “favorite” choices have a lot of similarities 😁

yes I think that’s the better one too

Not a lot of choices this week!

I like the Spanish Edition (2014) best because it actually has a wolf, but if the title is metaphorical and there are no actual wolves in the story then I would choose the cover you chose!

It’s a werewolf story and there were wolves in book one so I guess there will be some in book two? I don’t know, I haven’t read it yet – but I agree the Spanish cover is pretty regardless! 😀

Great choice! That, and its “neighbor” from Anchor Paperback are the ones that give off a definite seasonal chill: I can almost smell the cold air… 😉

I could do with a bit more snow on both covers, but yes, the atmosphere is most definitely chilly!

I have to go with the lone wolf, though I do like the stars

Yeah, the wolf is cool, but I gotta go with the sparkles 😉

Oh, so pretty! Agree with your choice 🙂
The French seems to have missed the memo. Looks more like autumn.

Agreed, I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at when I first glimpsed the French cover!

First off, I’ve never actually read an Ann Rice novel; Anne I missing out? And I have to go with that red cover. It, along with the font choice, gives me a nice chill down the spine!

Great pick – the Spanish is my favourite this week. Love that cover.
