Celebration of Sci-Fi Month continues with a pair of Star Wars prequel-era novels I’m featuring today, both of which I’m really looking forward to reading. First up, it’s another Star Wars novel by Claudia Gray, yeaaaaaah! She has become a Star Wars canon powerhouse author in recent years with Lost Stars, Bloodline, and Leia: Princess of Alderaan, and early next year she’s coming out with a book about Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. E.K. Johnston has been making her name as a Star Wars author too, with 2016’s young-adult novel Ahsoka, and pretty soon she’ll have another YA novel out about Padmé Amidala and her transition from queen to senator.
Star Wars: Master & Apprentice

Oh wow I didn’t know about these. Should be VERY interesting to see what Gray does with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.

I’m curious about it too! Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s mentor/apprentice relationship was my favorite thing about The Phantom Menace!

As much as I liked the original trilogy I’ve never started reading the books. There are just too many of them and my bookshelves are over-stuffed as it is! Hope you enjoy the new additions!

I was under the impression, from various other reviewers, that some of Claudia Black/Grey’s(?) books had some sex scenes in them.

Claudia Gray has written other YA, but I haven’t read all of them, so I don’t know. The one non-SW book I’ve read by her didn’t contain explicit sex, just the typical YA romance. AFAIK she has written no explicit sex scenes in any of her Star Wars novels (and I have read them all) because I definitely would have noticed if she had, lol. I remember taking issue with Daniel Jose Older’s use of words like “ass” in his Solo novel (not only because it’s crass, but it also just feels out of place in the SW universe) and if Gray had thrown in explicit sex I would have thrown a fit!
And Claudia Black is someone else, a actress/voice actor known for Farscape and voicing some supremely sexy bombshell video game characters. Maybe a case of mistaken identity? 😀

No, it was definitely with the Gray. I simply couldn’t remember which color the name was.
If I cared enough, I’d go digging, but I don’t.
It could be I read more into the reviews than the reviewer intended. I’ve done that many times

Hmm, it’s possible that with Star Wars, some readers are much more sensitive to stuff like sex, especially for a book aimed at YA, like in the case of her book Lost Stars. That one was a love story, and there was definitely a lot of flirting/kissing. However, there were no blatant sexual acts because I would have remembered, but maybe reviewers were concerned about “implied sex”? (like how some movies/books use the classic fade-out device, or the next morning scene showing a character leaving their lover’s home) There might or might not have been a scene like that, but if there had been, it must have been so minor and innocent that I’ve forgotten. So you could be remembering right, just a matter of perspective depending on the reviewer involved 😀

Bloodline was AMAZING! Best Leia book I’ve ever read, and I’ve been reading Star Wars since early original EU. Did you read Grey’s Star Wars: Lost Stars? That was also so good 😀

Yo Mogsy, ever read any SW books by a woman called Karen Travis? She also did the Gears of War series which I love. I havent read any SW novels yet unfortunately. But these do sound interesting.

I did! She wrote a lot of the Clone Trooper books, of which I’ve read a few, and I’ve also read and enjoyed the Gears books that you talked about!

We were just talking about Claudia Gray’s Star Wars books at our book club because my husband suggested one (Lost Stars) for our next book club pick!

I LOVE THAT BOOK! When I first set out to read all the Star Wars novels in the new canon, I only set my sights on the adult releases, and only reluctantly picked up Lost Stars (since it’s YA) because of the incredible early response it’d gotten. I’m so glad I did. At this point, I’ll pick up anything Gray writes for Star Wars. She’s far and above the best out of the new crop of authors they’ve tapped for the franchise.

This is what my husband has said he has heard as well, that all her SW books are highly rated. He also is like, well, it’s YA but! Lol. I’m hoping this one wins our poll for next book. Maybe I can rig it. Lol
