Waiting on Wednesday 05/09/18
“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

“An official tie-in to the hit video game Mass Effect: Andromeda, written by award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Catherynne M. Valente
An official tie-in to the hit video game Mass Effect: Andromeda. As the Quarian ark Keelah Si’yah sails toward the Andromeda galaxy, it carries 20,000 colonists from several races including the Drell, Elcor, and Batarians. Along the way a routine check reveals that many of the Drell colonists have died in their cryopods, and a pathogen is discovered. It begins to jump species, then the ship’s tech begins to fail, making it clear that this is no accident. It’s murder, and the perpetrator is still on board. The ship’s systems rapidly degrade, and panic spreads among the colonists. To make matters worse, the virus yields a terrible swelling of the brain that causes madness, hallucinations, and leads to violence. If the ship’s crew can’t restore their technology and find a cure, the Keelah Si’yah will never make it to the Nexus.”
Agh I’ve never played Mass Effect but I want to. And the premise sounds awesome. Death in cryopods and a horrible virus=win 🙂

The original ME trilogy is amazing. ME2 is perhaps one of my favorite games ever! I was less enamored of the new Andromeda, but I still love reading the tie-in fiction 🙂

I’ll be honest, they are mostly mediocre, but lately there have been so real gems. And with Valente at the helm, I am optimistic for this one.

For some reason I cannot wrap my head around these two things being together- Valente and Mass Effect. But hey, I know you will read this and let us know if it works or not!

I know right? I felt the same way about NK Jemisin and her Mass Effect book. But as we saw, that turned out very well 😀

I honestly haven’t read any Valente yet…..but everyone raves about her, so I should probably get around to it already. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’m a relative newcomer to her books myself. So far I’m loving her range of writing.

I’ve never been near the game but the plot sounds interesting.

Apart from knowing that Mass Effect is a game, this is very uncharted territory for me, but the concept of the book sounds very intriguing: I might have to ask Google to help me fill the blanks, so I can read this one with the hope of understanding the background… 🙂

The good news is, all the ME books so far have been stand alones, and can be enjoyed without having played the game. I imagine this one will be no different!

Ive recently played ME2 almost to the end, only to find out the disc(previously owned) is too scratched to advance me to next lvl or as it seemed to the ending😔

Oh man, I completely forgot this was coming out this year. I’m still salty about the whole “fridge the ME franchise” debacle, but since we can’t have a Quarian expansion to ME:A, I’ll settle for this. 🙂

To be honest, I can pretty much take it or leave it with the ME franchise. I love the original trilogy, but after the way ME3 was handled and my “meh” response towards Andromeda, I would be happy to simply move on with my good memories from the games and leave it at that 🙂 But I will ALWAYS read the media tie in novels 😀

I do like Valente so definitely ’nuff’ said – and I love the cover. It’s funny how tastes changes – I wouldn’t have glanced twice at a cover like that not so long ago.
