Waiting on Wednesday 09/20/17
“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme that first originated at Breaking the Spine but has since linked up with “Can’t Wait Wednesday” at Wishful Endings now that the original creator is unable to host it anymore. Either way, this fun feature is a chance to showcase the upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!

Starless by Jacqueline Carey (June 12, 2018 by Tor Books)
I just about had a heart attack when the cover for this book was revealed last week. It’s flippin’ gorgeous! It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Ms. Carey, and I can’t tell you how excited I am that she has new novel on the horizon, even if it’s not going to be released until next summer. I tell ya, it’s going to be torture counting the days until I can hold this stunning historical fantasy in my hands.
Jacqueline Carey is back with an amazing adventure not seen since her New York Times bestselling Kushiel’s Legacy series. Lush and sensual, Starless introduces us to an epic world where exiled gods live among us, and a hero whose journey will resonate long after the last page is turned.
Let your mind be like the eye of the hawk…Destined from birth to serve as protector of the princess Zariya, Khai is trained in the arts of killing and stealth by a warrior sect in the deep desert; yet there is one profound truth that has been withheld from him.
In the court of the Sun-Blessed, Khai must learn to navigate deadly intrigue and his own conflicted identity…but in the far reaches of the western seas, the dark god Miasmus is rising, intent on nothing less than wholesale destruction.
If Khai is to keep his soul’s twin Zariya alive, their only hope lies with an unlikely crew of prophecy-seekers on a journey that will take them farther beneath the starless skies than anyone can imagine.
oh that’s great, I didn’t know that she had a new book!

The cover was only revealed this week, though I had caught glimpses of her talking about it on her website. I’m glad it’s coming together!

Whoa, I didn’t even know about this book! It sounds so different from her last book. It’s going on the list😁

It does! I’m actually excited because it sounds more similar to her Kushiel books than anything she’s written more recently 🙂

I can fully understand your excitement. In the spring of 2005 I read Kushiel’s Dart out of boredom not knowing anything about the book or the author, therefore not expecting anything. The end result was that Jacqueline Carey forever altered my perception of what fantasy literature is and could be. Needless to say she is one of the authors whose writing abilities I admire and envy the most, along with Bujold and GGK.

Announcing a book so far ahead of its release sounds like exquisite torture for a writer’s fans. Maybe you should apply to the Court for Human Rights! 😀 😀

Agreed! Of her recent works, this sounds closest to Kushiel which is why I’m psyched! 😀
