Waiting on Wednesday 04/12/17
“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that lets us feature upcoming releases that we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Mogsy’s Pick
The Boy on the Bridge by M.R. Carey (May 2, 2017 by Orbit)
Not long to wait now; in less than a month we’ll be seeing the release of this companion novel to The Girl With All the Gifts. Judging by the vagueness of the description, I’m anticipating lots of surprises, just like in the first book. I’m hoping it’ll be just as terrific.
“From the author of USA Today bestseller The Girl With All the Gifts, a terrifying new novel set in the same post-apocalyptic world.
Once upon a time, in a land blighted by terror, there was a very clever boy.
The people thought the boy could save them, so they opened their gates and sent him out into the world.
To where the monsters lived.”
Hmm I’m curious! I don’t know about this one

This seems to be a popular pick this week. I still haven’t read The Girl With All the Gifts but I did see the movie. I’m hoping people find this one as good as I know many loved the first one.

I’m not going to buy it unless I get a better idea of the plot-that is way too vague for me!

I like the blurb. Horror fairy tale mashup.

I didn’t even realize there was going to be a companion novel for The Girl With All the Gifts!

I should read Fellside

What a clever idea to keep the synopsis to a minimum: we would have read it anyway, considering the success of the linked previous book, but this raises our curiosity to higher levels indeed… 🙂

I never did read Girl With All The Gifts, and I was so curious about it too. That is a very intriguing synopsis and I really need to read this.

Oooo, very cool! I like the companion sequel trend, to be honest. That’s awesome that this book is publishing in about three weeks – hopefully you’ll get to read it as soon as possible! I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance!
Have a wonderful day, Mogsy. =)

I had seen this one (on Goodreads). I do fancy reading this and it is very mysterious sounding – part of me though, just a little part, can’t help feeling a tiny bit curious in Carey – because I though Girl with All the Gifts was a strandalone novel? I probably just had the wrong end of the stick – and I do fancy reading more from this world.

Yep, Girl with All the Gifts was standalone! Which is why I think they’re calling Boy on the Bridge a prequel/standalone/companion or something like that. Either way, I don’t expect we’ll see much connection between the two stories, other than taking place in the same world 🙂
