lj03Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Noelle Stevenson

lady-castleLadyCastle by Delilah S. Dawson

When King Mancastle and his mighty vassals ride off on crusade, the women left behind are not at all put out-that’s a lot less armor polishing for them to do. Of course, when the men get themselves eaten by a dragon and leave a curse that attracts monsters to the castle…well, the women take umbrage with that. Now the blacksmith’s wife Merinor is King, Princess Aeve is the Captain, and the only remaining (and least capable) knight Sir Riddick is tasked with teaching the ladies of the castle how to fight, defend, build, and do all manner of noisy things the men had been doing while the women assumed they were just drunk. Novelist Delilah S. Dawson (Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon, As Wicked as She Wants, Wake of Vultures) brings her first original series to comics, and is joined by breakthrough illustrator Ashley A. Woods (Niobe: She Is Life) for a rollicking fantasy adventure featuring women reclaiming their lives on their terms.

    • I’ve only read the first issue of Lumberjanes, but it was cute. I hope I like the first volume. I’m really looking for to it and Paper Girls when I get a chance.

    • I read the first issue and enjoyed it. I want to read volume one with my daughter. It does skew younger, but being the mother of a young girl means I read lots of books for younger kids. LOL.

    • That’s the same reason I want to check our LadyCastle. I enjoyed what I have read from her and think she’d do a good job with this.

    • Honestly, outside of Twitter, there wasn’t a huge campaign for Moon Girl, so I’m not surprised you hadn’t heard of it before now.

  1. I am woefully behind on my comic/manga reading as much as I enjoy reading them when I do! Lumberjanes and anything set in DC comics is appealing to me so I’ll have to add some of these to my tbr 🙂

    • I’m behind on everything! My life went completely nutty at the end of 2016. I’m hoping to catch up on these at least. I definitely want to read Injustice as that’s received a ton of praise, and I really like the game for it.

    • I actually read and reviewed the very first issue, but didn’t get a chance to read more of it. I thought it was cute, and I’m interested in seeing how well a full arc was written.
