Eric Northman (Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris) – Admittedly, I only made it through one Sookie Stackhouse book before I decided it wasn’t the series for me, which is sad because as a Southerner I get excited when I see media set in the South, especially genre fiction. I did watch the television show religiously, though, and I just never did get it. It could turn a conversation with fandom awkward when you admit to being that one person who doesn’t like Eric “Da Gawd” Northman. He was only ever just okay at the best of times in my eyes. This entry could actually be a threefer because I didn’t like Bill or Sookie much either.
Trust me, I do not love you either.
Batman (DC Comics)- I’d be lying by omission if I didn’t say that, at one point in my life, I was a huge Batman girl. Even though I wasn’t into DC, I thought I liked Batman. I’d also like to point out that I was maybe 10-years-old at the time. So, some years back, I got on this big kick where I read a bunch of Batman books to really get to know the character, and I decided that I didn’t really like Batman as much as I thought I did. He has his moments, but after reading some arcs with Batman and Huntress, I pretty much was done with the whole Bat family.
Get out, Batman.
Eren (Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama) – Few manga boys grate my nerves like Eren. I’m a big Attack on Titan fan, but I watch/read it for everyone except Eren. ANYONE except Eren. #ExceptEren. Even his face is stupid. I have spent 90% of my time reading this manga and watching this anime thinking, “Calm the fuck down, Eren.” Just ridiculous.

Anita Blake (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series by Laurell K. Hamilton) – You wouldn’t believe how over Anita Blake I am. I lasted maybe 10 books, and probably more than half of those books were hate-reads because I was sick to death of Anita by that time. I started out liking her very much. As I continued the series, I found my tolerance level with all the characters, but most especially Anita, hitting an unprecedented level of “This is bullshit!” until finally, I had to stop reading these books.

Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) – *sigh*
I think this reasoning could go on all day, so I’ll sum it all up with one gif.
Mogsy’s Picks:
Jon Snow (A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin) – I can hear the reactions now. “What?! How can anyone not like Jon Snow?” Well, I can come up with several reasons, least of all that the last hope of Westeros rests upon the shoulders of some emo whiny teenager who likes to wear a lot of black and has a phenomenal talent for pissing off everyone who meets him for the first time? I call shenanigans. Actually, Jon has made great strides since becoming a Crow, but I still find his storyline boring.
Life is so unfair…
Meg Corbyn (The Others series by Anne Bishop) – I actually dig this series a lot. More and more though, I’ve been wondering why Meg gets a pass from the Simon Wolfgard and the residents of Lakeside Courtyard, especially when they seem to be quite ornery towards all other humans. Yes, Meg is a blood prophet, but she’s also kind of passive character if you think about it. Doesn’t explain why all the Others defer to her or bend over backwards to treat her like a queen, given too that it goes completely against their nature.
Not impressed…MEG.
Sigrud (City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett) – Let me be clear, I actually don’t have a problem with Sigrud, I think he’s a great character. Still, I’m mystified why he’s so many people’s favorite. I mean, it’s not like the fantasy genre has a shortage of LARGE MEN, those big, strong, hulking berserker types who are always calm — until they’re not. Sigrud is cool, just…nothing special.
Seen this before…
Rowan Whitethorn (Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas) – The sad thing is, I started out liking Rowan a lot. His mentor-protégé relationship with Aelin’s was the one thing that stood out for me in Heir of Fire, but I should have known it wouldn’t last. As a teacher, Rowan actually had an interesting dynamic with our main character, but then it crumbled the moment he became just another love interest in Queen of Shadows. I know a lot of readers ship these two, but personally I can’t find it in myself to forgive that scene with Aelin parading in front of Rowan in a skimpy nightie.
Ron Weasley (Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling) – Sorry, I just can’t stand this kid.

Eric made my list too, though I didn’t always hate him. It just sort of happened as the series went on.

Are we okay to discuss spoilers in comments? LOL! Well, I thought it was pretty predictable, as Jon had been courting that fate for the last five books. But I’m also with a bunch of fans on the belief that it is not the end for him…

Yeah, I suspect we might get something similar to the whole lady stoneheart thing…I also agree Jon as we know him will most likely be gone, but hey, that might actually end up being an improvement! XD

Yes, now that we’re moving away from the books, I’m very curious. I know GRRM has had some input, but very exciting that we’re headed into almost completely unknown territory now. 🙂

I agree with many of these, but not Batman! Admittedly I haven’t read many of the books, I just don’t like DC much, but I like Batman. Superman on the other hand… Don’t get me started on Eren ugh! Ron Weasley and Luke Skywalker are also on my annoying lists, but I can’t help but love Jon Snow! I haven’t seen the TV show though. And I don’t care enough about the Sookie books to hate them haha!

I’m not huge on Superman either, but I think people hear me rant enough about Superman that I thought I should change gears for a little bit. LOL. I tried so hard with Sookie. Okay, not really. I almost DNF’d the first book after a couple of starts. Loved the series. Well, I loved everyone except Eric, Bill, and Sookie.

Batman almost made my list as well. But I changed my mind because there’s too many different iterations of him I actually like (mostly only from TV shows and movies though).
Anita! I didn’t think about her, but yeah. She got really annoying. I enjoyed the first few books of that series but I got really frustrated with the way the series was going after Burnt Offerings.

Anita would have made it on mine too, but looks like from the comments in here, most people actually find her annoying, lol! I personally gave up after 5 or 6 books, good job Tiara for making it further than me.

It’s the whineyness isn’t it – I think that’s the thing that puts us off characters and Jon Snow has it going on – (he’s like a male Bella – boo hoo, whine, blah). Laughed my socks off at Luke being on here because he also occurred to me – (even if he can bullseye a womp rat!).

Sorry, back again, I’m not stalking you – I forgot a couple of things. Eric and Sigrud – well that bit above about being mystified about “LARGE MEN” – yeah, right there. That’s right I just brought the tone all the way to the gutter. grrrrr! Sigrud – get in my life right now! (Or Eric) (Bill was actually a bit whiney now I think about it so he can stay put).
Also – Jon Snow, I reckon he’s going to make a reappearance. I’m not buying that he’s popped his clogs.

So glad to see Batman on the list. I also thought I liked him before I actually started reading comics. Everyone liked him! He’s the cool mysterious broody one. But what I found in comics (and movies, cartoons, etc) just didn’t measure up to the hype. Just Batman, though. Well, Batman and Joker, another character a lot of people seem to love for some reason. Batman’s sidekicks and friends are ok with me, and I absolutely love Batwoman and Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl. Looking back at it, I can’t even remember why I thought Batman was cool or figure out why people continue to think so. Ah well.

100% with you here. Maybe if I’d never read a Batman comic I’d probably still adore him, but I’m so jaded now. My first real experience with Batman was the old 90s cartoon which I really liked him in. Now, I’m all “meh.” Batman only still pleases me when he’s calling Superman out.

Haha, I’m not surprised to see Rowan on this list! And I agree, he was such a good character in Heir of Fire but in Queen of Shadows, he was reduced to being a “male” with a one-track mind (and then they just kept sleeping next to each other?).
And I know a lot of people dislike Ron, he’s such an ambiguous character, but he grew on me.

Yes, so sad how far Rowan has fallen. I loved him in Heir of Fire because he was so dignified and full of class. Then in the span of one sequel, he was demoted to boy toy. Sigh.

I couldn’t agree with you more about Anita Blake! I lasted 12 or 13 books, but by book 9, I was so freaking over that series, it was ridiculous. There has never been another author who has so totally destroyed a character and a series as thoroughly as LKH destroyed Anita Blake.

I don’t know if I even made it to book 9 before I was upset with her. It feels like book 4 or 5 was probably when I decided that I was sick of Anita, but I kept reading. I don’t know if this was to torture myself or because I thought it would get better.

SO much word on the Sookie Stackhouse characters and Anita Blake! I also gave up on Sookie after book one (Sam was the only character I liked in that book and since he was in love with Sookie….)and went from totally adoring Anita in the first 3-4 books until I completely gave up around book 6. Such a damn shame.
Also, I will join your Ron Weasley is an annoying douchebag club.

I loved Anita. LOVED. That’s probably why I stuck it out until about book 10, but from around book 5 onward, it was a mess. It was like being betrayed. LOL.

I actually first met her in book 9 and she was okay — probably because she was away from her boyfriend sex romping. I was fooled. Fooled, I tell you! Also, it was a great story about Edward. Where did all of that go?

I totally agree on the being unable to forgive the scene where Aelin parades around in front of Rowan in a skimpy nightgown, I hated it, it just felt so childish. Plus I can’t get over the fact that he’s like 300 and she’s 19.

On one hand you aren’t a Rowan fan either but then you don’t like Ron! Haha I guess it evens out. I still prefer Chaol all by my lonesome, not necessarily as a love interest but just in general. He’s become a bit of an ass but with realistic reasons. My TTT

I once read the first Anita Blake book by semi-accident and found it descently entertaining. But after some unfavourable reviews having been brought to my attention I refrained from bothering with any of the sequels. Looking through your list and the relating comments, it turns out to be a wise choice.
