Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson: October 6, 2015 (Tor)
Sanderson’s original Mistborn trilogy features a more epic and elaborate story and gets a lot of love from fans, but I confess I probably enjoyed book four The Alloy of Law more than the first three books put together. Set 300 years after the events of The Hero of Ages, I was just really taken by the western-like setting and the mild hints of steampunk, not to mention the cleverly named duo of Wax and Wayne. I’m really looking forward to the next book of their adventures.

The trilogy’s heroes are now figures of myth and legend, even objects of religious veneration. This is a Sanderson book I am actually looking forward to. I have a soft spot for Mistborn and though the wild west version was just as fun.

As much as I generally love Sanderson’s work, this is one series that didn’t wow me. I thought the first book was fantastic, but the rest of the trilogy suffered from the absence of the original protagonist. None of the other characters were strong enough, for me, to really engage me.
If this is 300 years later with a new cast, however, I might give it a shot.

I have read the Mistborn series – I didn’t absolutely love it though. But, I do fancy this with the ‘western’ feel. I might have to pick up The Alloy of Law – although, not sure how much I recall of Mistborn!

This sounds good. I think I have The Alloy of Law and need to read it. I’m reading Karen Memory right now and loving it. So I’m in the mood for something else about the Old West.

Fantastic pick^^ I still need to read The Alloy of Law – I was mourning after I finished Hero of Ages and I needed to step back for a bit. I’m planning on catching up soon though, especially with the cover for this one tempting me hardcore XD
